Yasu began to learn the bagpipes in 2003. She quickly progressed on the instrument and joined the Queensland Police Juvenile Pipes and Drums in 2006, before moving to the Queensland Highlanders Pipe Band No. 1, Queensland’s best pipe band and Australia’s number one pipe corps in 2007.
Alongside her involvement in pipe bands, Yasu has competed in solo piping competitions both nationally and internationally. In 2006, at the age of 12, she was crowned Australasian Young Piper of the Year. At the age of 14, she was Queensland’s B Grade champion, a title she held for three years until she was upgraded to A Grade, the highest possible level of solo piping in Australia. In addition to these achievements, Yasu has been requested to play at many private events and corporate functions, the most notable being accompanying John Farnham.
When not wearing her piper’s cap, Yasu is a violinist with the Queensland Medical Orchestra and working towards the completion of her medical degree.
